Curtis Mayfield Lincoln Center Festival Tribute

The lineup for the Lincoln Center Festival tribute to the late soul music icon Curtis Mayfield has been expanded with the addition of artists Sinéad O'Connor, Bilal, Meshell Ndegeocello, William Bell, Ryan Montbleau and Inyang Bassey. This one-time-only event takes place on July 20 at 8pm in Avery Fisher Hall. Previously announced performers include The Impressions, Mavis Staples, Aloe Blacc, Kyp Malone and Tune Adebimpe, Dr. Lonnie Smith and a 14-piece house band led by music director Binky Griptite of the Dap-Kings. The DRC ?Bukavu/Goma, South/North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, 22 September, 2008. On September 12th and 19th, in Goma and Bukavu respectively, for the first time in the Democratic Republic of Congo survivors of sexual violence publicly spoke out, breaking their silence. They did so as part of V-DAY and UNICEF's global campaign: "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource: Power to Women and Girls in DRC." In front of government and UN officials, international delegates and civil society members, twelve women and two girls told their stories of rape and its impact on their lives. They issued a call to the world to put an end to the sexual violence that has ravaged and shamed them and hundreds of thousands of other women and girls in the DRC.
