Friars Club, NYC December 4, 2014 – Gotham Networking held its 3rd and most memorable GOtham Green Awards ceremony recognizing companies and people who are making important contributions toward a more sustainable, and energy efficient world for all of us. These are the people who will help shape our futures by introducing such things as: ways to better utilize our resources, tools to improve our self-reliance as a country, implementing new and improved ways to build, creating new ways to use our waste, using old spaces in new ways, and providing new options for growing produce.

The Gotham Foundation gave four Summer of Giving grants of $5500 each at our annual Holiday Party this Tuesday.
The grants are one of the best things we do and personify our "It's better to give than receive, but what goes around comes around" mantra in so many ways.
As you know, the money was collected at meetings over our extended Summer in small cash denominations and by credit card donations (thanks again to Marc Halpert for donating back all fees and Ester Horowitz for being one of the initiators of the program) and matched by Raj Goel and Michael Farrell.
What you don't know is that a number of anonymous donors also contributed substantially to the pot.
What forces compel a generous giving individual to do so without attribution? Surely, it is beyond me.

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., had a childhood dream of becoming a physician. Growing up in a single parent home with dire poverty, poor grades, a horrible temper, and low self-esteem appeared to preclude the realization of that dream until his mother, with only a third-grade education, challenged her sons to strive for excellence. Young Ben persevered and today is an emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and he has directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for over 39 years. He became the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name in May, 2008. He is now the Emeritus Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N. Water is the sustenance of life. Let's cherish it always, conserve it and be joyful with it. Water has life. You come to me for living water thoughts were submitted by Xhen Joy Lin.
We dedicate these thoughts to Masaru Emoto who saw the beauty and healing Power of Water in many peaceful ways.
Masaru Emoto Quote
Beautiful words have beautiful, clear vibrations. But negative words put out ugly, incoherent vibrations which do not form clusters. Language is not something artificial, but rather is something that exists naturally. I believe that language is created by nature. To Friends of Ray,
For those of you who don’t know, I am Ray Korona’s Life Partner. I wanted to make sure everyone listed in his email address book received this note, so please excuse duplication if you have already received it. Also, I tried to send to the whole list yesterday and that didn't seem to work, so I'm sending again in smaller batches.
I hope eventually everybody will think about Ray and get the usual happy feeling, but for now I am sad to say that Ray passed away at 6:00 pm Thursday, Oct. 16, at Hackensack UMC. I was there, along with his brother and sister and in-laws, some nieces and nephews, and several friends. We played Ray's cds. Gina Tlamsa, a friend and member of the Ray Korona Band, added great beauty and peace to the day by playing the flute.
Ray was … [Continue reading...]

As on every September 11, I am posting Jefferson Crowther's poignant remembrance of his son, Welles Remey Crowther. Tonight, on September 11, 2014, at Mets Citifield, Jefferson will have the distinct honor of throwing out the first ball in tribute to his son.
'The Man in the Red Bandana'
By Jefferson H. Crowther
Please excuse these ramblings of a proud, old father who lost one the
brightest lights in his life. This light was my dear, dear son, Welles
Remy Crowther, who at age 24 was killed when the South Tower of the
World Trade Center collapsed on him and so many other innocent victims
of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Welles was an equities
trader with Sandler-O'Neill and Partners working on the 104th floor of
WTC2. He was also a volunteer firefighter and member … [Continue reading...]
At only 16 years old, a junior, in high school, it was on December 11, 2008 when Amanda Suzanne Brownell tried to take her life in a bathroom at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. This was a result of the bullying, sexual bullying, and cyber bullying she endured through MySpace, Facebook, AIM, and the 3500 text MESSAGES she received the month before her suicide attempt. Amanda, suffered severe brain damage, unable to speak or care for herself.
After almost 4 and 1/2 years Amanda decided that her job here was done. She was hospitalized with pneumonia and seizures on March 13, 2013, while her parents were in Hawaii on vacation. On March 23, Amanda did not want to be poked and squeezed anymore. She was done and did not want any type of medicine or food. There was a family meeting … [Continue reading...]
